Demeter’s Titles

Demeter Panagia (Pan-ah-gee’-ah) : means All-Holy Demeter.

Demeter Chloaia (Chlo-ah-ee’-ah) : describes the verdant aspects of the Goddess.

Demeter Antaia (An-ta-ee’-ah) : means Demeter Besought by Prayers. With this name, one
calls out to her for assistance.

Demeter Melaina (Meh-lay’-na) : describes Demeter in her dark sorrowing mother aspect. This is
the blackest of her grief and loss. As Melaina, she is the Crone,
bringing the barren time to the cycle of the seasonal year.

Demeter Thesmophoros (Thez-mo-phor’-ose) : describes Demeter of the Sacred Laws.

Demeter Chthonia (C-tho-nee’-ah) : means Demeter of the Below, of the deep earth, and also of the
Underworld.

Demeter Evalosia (Ev-ah-lo-see’-ah) : describes Demeter of the Good Harvest.

Dea Mystica (De’ah My’sti-ca) : means Goddess of the Mysteries.
